This spring, the upper school students are taking on another musical, and this time the production will be “High School Musical.” It is going to be shown April 1-3 in the Hackney Theater.

Auditions for the play were held on Jan. 4 and 6. At the auditions, the students had to sing and read an excerpt from the script. After the first round of auditions, some students got call-backs.

“[They] were the best auditions we’ve ever had.” Mrs. Francis said.

After a few days of auditioning and call-backs, Lila Spurgeon and James Cooper were cast as the two leads, Gabriella and Troy.

“I was very shocked and excited,” Lila said about her new role. “I am very, very excited to do the show because I loved the movie when I was younger.”

The musical has a cast of roughly 30 people with an additional 15 students working as stage crew. There are also people in the play who have never acted and sung before.

Mr. Hoyle said, “It [is] the most people we’ve seen in seven years.”
